Happy New Year!

I'm looking forward to the new year. I believe a lot of good things will happen for the animals and lots of new vegan products will probably end up in the supermarkets. What do you think of when it comes to 2015, the animals and veganism?

When I'm looking back on 2015 these are some of the things that come to mind:

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret
This documentary really got attention and had an impact on its viewers.

The discovery that one can make meringue from chickpea liquid became a hit, at least here in Sweden.

The Mayonnaise Conspiracy
In the USA the egg industry tried to outmaneuver the vegan mayonnaise company Hampton Creek.

Good News
There were a lot of good news for animals in the media, from bullfighting ban on the Balearic Islands to the creation of a vast ocean sanctuary outside the coast of New Zealand.

Hopefully a lot of good things will happen in 2016, let's hope for that!

I want to wish you a happy new year and thank you for following Rörelse för djurrätt!

Racing Extinction: Lighting A Candle

I watched the new film Racing Extinction a few days ago. I saw it on the Discovery Channel, which has aired the documentary several times in December.

Racing Extinction - Rörelse för djurätt
Racing Extinction on TV.

Racing Extinction present important facts about the state of the life on our planet. They say we humans are causing the sixth extinction among species on planet earth.

The movie makers behind Racing Extinction are also known for the Academy Award winning documentary The Cove, which put light on the dolphin slaughter outside the coast of Japan. Just like in The Cove the filmmakers are using hidden cameras to expose what's going on, this time it's the illegal trade with many different species that are under threat of extermination.

Most of the scenes where interesting however I must say that I found the scenes from illegal animal markets distressing.

This is a documentary I recommend especially to persons involved in or caring for environmental issues. I find Racing Extinction important and hopeful. I can't disagree with what's being said in the end: It's better to light one candle than to curse the darkness. And that is exactly what the filmmakers are doing, lighting a candle. See it and #startwith1thing!

Stefan Löfven i rätt riktning vad gäller djurkött

Ingen trevlig läsning men däremot väldigt viktig.

Allt gott!

Unlocking The Cage To Premiere At Sundance Film Festival In 2016

The Chris Hegedus & Donn Alan Pennebaker documentary Unlocking The Cage will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January of 2016.

In Unlocking The Cage we get to follow Steven M. Wise from the Nonhuman Rights Project as he goes to court demanding limited personhood rights for four chimpanzees in New York.

Lauren Choplin wrote about Unlocking The Cage on the Nonhuman Rights Project's blog yesterday. Find the article here, find more information here and here.

Also, watch the short documentary Animals Are Persons Too here, created by the same filmmakers as Unlocking The Cage.

The Superior Human?

In March of 2012 the documentary The Superior Human? was released and could be watched for free on the Internet.

But something happened, I don’t know when but the trailer and the whole documentary have been made private on YouTube. So they can not be watched. I don’t know why the filmmakers made this decision, maybe the scenes with elephants painting, something pictured in the film to prove that other species than humans can create art, has something to do with it. I’m thinking this way because it has been revealed that elephant painting is forced by the elephant trainers.

Anyhow, when I’ve watched the film I’ve found it very interesting and educational.

In The Superior Human? eighteen ideas regarding human superiority over other animals are being presented and answered in an entertaining, calm and informative way. Humans aren’t superior, nor inferior, as it is being said in another documentary - Unity - we are “not the same, but equal”.

I recommend persons of all ages to watch The Superior Human?. One can really learn a lot from it.

The film is from Australia and USA, it is 73 minutes long and you can order it from It is written and directed by Samuel McAnallen, and produced by Dr. Jenia Meng. Animal advocates Dr. Richard Ryder, Dr. Bernard Rollin, Gary Yourofsky, and Dr. Steven Best appear.

Find the trailer on this link. You can find a similar post in Swedish here.

Plant Based News Film: Veganism Is Rising

Veganism is rising.

Plant Based News is a YouTube channel that's been around for about 3-4 months. At the moment they have more than 6.300 subscribers. The people behind this YouTube channel are making videos with news about veganism, recipes and interviews. Now they have put together a 24 minutes long video called Vegan 2015 - The Film. You can watch it below.

The Plant Based News team have put together a convincing film showing us that veganism is rising and increasing. It is presenting news from 2015 with celebrities that have gone vegan, and vegans and plant based food in the news and talked about. Things have really been happening this year. You'll see if you watch it!

On this blog I've presented good news for animals a handful of times this year, you can find these posts by clicking on Good News For Animals in the menu or here. I'd like to see a film similar to Vegan 2015 - The Film but more with a even bigger focus on victories for animals in the news, of course with a animal rights perspective.

Govindas Christmas Dinner In Lund 2015

Tonight I was at the annual Christmas dinner at Govindas vegetarian restaurant in Lund.

The Christmas dinner, or smorgasbord, is organized by the staff of Govindas and Djurens Rätt Lund, which is a local branch of Djurens Rätt, or Animal Rights Sweden in English.

The restaurant was packed with about 55 guests, all the food (over 30 dishes) was vegan and most of it was also gluten free. We also had dessert. I took photos of some the food that you can see below.

This year there were about 150 guests and a lot of vegan food including desserts. I took some photos of the food that you can watch here.
